Scariest day of my life

So after I posted about our fabulous Christmas, I did not want to be a downer and post how sore I was in Laredo....this is why:
So Thursday, December 22nd started out like any other day.  I was rushing getting Logan ready to go and head off to work.  I had lots of things on my mind that day as I drove.  We were heading to Laredo that night to spend  Christmas with the Parks side of the family so we needed to pack when I got off work and try and hit the road by 7ish.  Logan always falls asleep on the way to school and I looked up and saw him asleep in the mirror and I smiled and thought, hopefully he will be that good for us tonight on the road! We hit some traffic being that it was close to 8am. We were in the turning lane turning into Logan's school.  All of the sudden I saw a maroon car heading straight at me and I could not do anything except brace myself and close my eyes as I felt the impact of the car hit me straight on.  The airbags deployed and my car slid back about 30 feet.  My first thought as I was sliding is Logan, I heard him screaming and I needed to get him out of the car.  My door was jammed and I pushed it open with all my strength.  I opened the door to get Logan out and he was not in his car seat.  Where was he?! For a split second I checked the windows to see if he had gone through (I can barely type this without wincing at the thought).  He was on the floorboard on his belly screaming his little head off. He had been knocked out of his carseat by the impact. He was buckled in and the carseat was still strapped (the police officer has no idea how he slipped out, it was a good carseat too, a Graco that had wonderful safety reviews...) I grabbed him, held him so tight and just cried in the middle of the street.  Thank you GOD that my baby was not hurt. All of Logan's teachers came running out to help me and I handed Logan over as I tried to calm down and stop my hands from shaking.  I called Bryan bawling and a Dad from the school called the police and the ambulance.  The other driver said he fell asleep at the wheel.  It was 8am, really?! Grrrr. At least he had insurance and they are covering everything! Logan and I rode in the ambulance to the hospital and Bryan was right behind us.  By the time we got there I was a little more calm, but still very shaken up.  My chest felt as if someone was sitting on it and I was having trouble taking a deep breath. All I cared about was my baby boy.  They checked him over and monitored him for an hour and he was fine.  No bumps or bruises at all. My Dad works about 40 minutes away and Bryan called him and he was there not long after that.  When he came in his eyes were red.  My Dad does not show emotion often, and this made me cry even more.  I had a chest x-ray and everything was fine.  I had a big bruise from the seat belt and I was very sore.  My right shoulder still hurts. We left the hospital and needed to go to my insurance agent's office, buy Logan a new carseat, get a rental car and go get everything out of my car. We got everything taken care of and hit the road to Laredo that evening.  It was a LONG drive being so sore but we made it and had a great time.  This Christmas I reflected on my life and how things could have been different.  I had a guardian angel watching over me that day.  This was by far the scariest day of my life.  I can think of all the ways it could have been worse, but it wasn't. We are here, that is all that matters.  Cars can be replaced. Lives can't.  It was somewhat ironic that I was listening to KSBJ (I do everyday) and right before I got hit, they were telling a story about how important things in life aren't things. Man how true is this?! Don't EVER take life for granted.  Kiss your loved ones, tell them you love them, you never know what could happen.

Tis the season! [part 2]

We made our way down to Laredo to spend Christmas with the Parks family.  We got there pretty late and Logan was wore out and went right to bed like a good boy! The next day we hung out and spent some time with the family and saw some old friends, it was nice to catch up with them and for them to see how big our little man is getting.  Christmas Eve was spent at Aunt Cindy's house where there was lots of food and a great time watching A Christmas Story.  Christmas Day we headed over to Uncle Ken and Aunt Letty's and had a wonderful time.  Logan opened all his gifts and of course was facinated by the wrapping paper! He got books, an A&M Build-A-Bear, a dump truck, clothes, jammies, this little boy is very blessed! He napped on and off the entire day (he had a fever the night before so he was still getting over his ear infection poor baby!) We headed back to Bryan's grandparents house and got Logan fed, bathed and changed.  We then went over to my friend Christy's apartment and she got him an awesome race car toy! Bryan said he will be playing with it more than Logan.  Lol.  Later that night we went to Kristal and Matt's (Bryan's cousin and wife) and he got to spend some quality time with the boys while Logan was asleep in their guest bedroom (he was pretty much tuckered out at this point!).  The next day we went and ate breakfast with some friends and I got my Laredo (REAL!) mexican food fix! It was sooo yummy! Logan seemed to like the eggs and potatoes as well.  We made it back home and decided to go eat at On the Border (we got a gift card) and Logan seemed to not want to eat his dinner but look at all the girls that were in there and just smile, boy are we in for some trouble later down the road! After that, we headed over to Barnes and Nobles to use yet another gift card and I got some great books for Logan for half off.  We got back to our apt and Suki was so happy to see us.  We literally put Logan in his jammies and headed to bed.  Bryan had to work the next day and I had the whole week off. I was excited about spending the entire week with my baby boy! I hope everyone had a blessed Christmas and a very Happy New Year! Looking forward to next Christmas already!

Tis the season! [part 1]

This time last year I was about halfway along in my pregnancy and thinking this time next year will be so fun with Logan! And I kept thinking about how far away it was.  Well it is here! Logan had his first Christmas at his Grams and Paw Paw's (my Mom and Dad) last weekend.  He was a little under the weather.  He has had a cough a runny nose for a while now and his 2 top teeth are popping through the surface. He napped quite a bit all weekend and was a little cranky.  Needless to say he was not really in the Christmas spirit, but we got some smiles and laughs from him.  He got lots of neat toys, books and clothes. He needed lots of 9 month and 12 month clothes, he is outgrowing his 6-9 month clothes quickly.  He also got 2 boxes of diapers from his Aunty Kelli (which I was really excited about, heck yea diapers are expensive!) He even got a new sippy cup that we have been trying and he seems to like it better than the one I got him.  We had a great time! We are off to Laredo to spend Christmas with Bryan's family this weekend!

People I love-Shawna

Shawna is a very special and dear friend in my life.  We have been friends since about 5th grade.  We kind of lost touch in high school.  We hung out with different friends but always were friendly when we saw each other.  Fast forward to 2005, my first semester at college. We "re-met" randomly and found out not only did we go to the same college, we lived in the same apartment complex! From then on it was like we had been best friends all this time.  She was (and still is!) my crutch and supoport when I was going through some really hard times.  She stuck by me.  She was there for me when I had to make some of the hardest descions of my life.  We had 2 great years at SHSU and those were the best times I ever had! After graduation I moved to Laredo.  She was one of the only people that ever came and visited me there.  It meant so much to me.  While I was living there, she graduated and moved to Austin.  I came and visited her as well and we never lost touch.  I was thrilled to find out I was moving back closer to home in 2010 when I got a job offer at TAMU in College Station.  After I moved here I found out SHE got a great job offer in the City of Bryan and I knew it was meant to me! We were in the same place yet again!!! She is always an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on.  She will never judge me and tell me exactly what she thinks, no holding back, and that is why she is one of my best friends and always will be! We haev shared so many memories together I know there are much more to come.

I will always remember:
Shenannigans
SHSU Rec Sports
Hair dying
Soulmidget love
Our randomness
Christmas in the Park
Miss New Bootyith
Oh snap
Charlotte's web
Friends marathons
Oyeshi
Throw it in the bag
America's Next Top Model marathons
Her AMAZING photography (my graduation, my engagements, bridals, wedding, Logan, pretty much all of the best parts of my whole LIFE!)
Going out in CS (when we lived in H-ville)
Tacos
Neon Green
Copperhead Road

Through the laughter (of most which WE only get) and tears, I am so very proud that she is my friend. <3
